Nice fire road loop to bag Tongva Peak and Mt Thom the easy way (ie not going straight up the firebreak from Brand Park). It’s about a 6 mile loop, about 2 hours, depending on how fast your dog is. Great views from the top, though the trail itself is a fire road 🥱 Not much shade, do not recommend doing this in the summer with a dog

I love this hike. I began to do it at least once a week now. There are multiple options to head up to the top. Halfway up, there is a great viewpoint that allows you to see downtown LA, downtown Glendale, and the Burbank airport. Beautiful views the entire way up. This is a fairly steep hike on the way up, and a little slippery on the way back down. It will definitely make you stop multiple times on the way up to catch your breath. I love the challenge and the cardio workout it gives you. Depending on what day of the week you come and at what time, parking can be a little challenging, especially on the weekends as there are often weddings or group picnics, etc. According to tracking on my app, when I start at the parking lot and go to the furthest point up, it’s an almost 1900ft elevation.

The trail begins in a residential area and quickly transitions into a broad dirt fire road surrounded by Southern California chaparral vegetation. Visitors enjoy panoramic city views, open skies, and a straightforward route that is easy to follow. The trail is especially popular during early mornings and evenings because there is very little shade along the route

Absolutely beautiful view especially at sundown. You can see two cityscapes, downtown LA and Century City closer to the west. The steps to get up to the trail are steep but the trail looked less challenging once you climbed the two sets of stairs. I would love to go back to see the views from the mountains the other end of the ridge.
