Oakland Zoo is a nationally recognized nonprofit zoological park and conservation organization located in the Oakland Hills, California. The zoo is huge and was a lot bigger than I expected. It took about 3.5 to 4 hours to completely walk around the zoo. I love the gondola ride up to another section of zoo! I managed to takes these pictures of the exhibition. I'm sad how I didn't get to visit the Savanna section because it was temporarily closed. If you have EBT or Medi-cal, the tickets ONLY cost $1 to $5/per person with FREE parking!

The Oakland Museum of California (OMCA) is a renowned nonprofit museum and cultural institution dedicated to exploring California's art, history, and natural sciences under one roof. Founded in 1969 through the merger of three pioneering museums, OMCA houses more than 1.9 million objects that tell the diverse stories of California and its people
If you grew up in the east bay and you came here on school field trips this is not the same museum. It has been beautifully reimagined and updated. The price of admission is well worth it. The museum seems never ending. You can spend the whole day here learning about California history, art, culture and natural history. We will be getting a membership so we can enjoy it all year.
Also have lunch at the cafe. We got the burger and chicken sandwich and this is probably the best museum food we’ve had. Most places charge a ton for mediocre food. Not the OMCA!

The USS Hornet Museum is a nonprofit maritime museum and historic aircraft carrier located in Alameda, California, just across the bay from Oakland. Housed aboard the legendary USS Hornet (CV-12), the museum preserves the ship's distinguished service in World War II, the Cold War, the Vietnam War, and its historic role as the primary recovery vessel for the Apollo 11 and Apollo 12 astronauts after their Moon missions.
The docents really make the experience. Their knowledge is impressive as is their dedication to sharing the legacy of the Hornet. We opted for the additional engine room tour and our docent's knowledge impressed my engineer Dad who specializes in power generation. Touring the Hornet makes you appreciate the luxuries of freedom afforded by the sacrifices of many brave young Americans who had hopes and dreams just like us.
