Rex Halverson founded his tax firm in 2005. Prior to starting up his firm, Rex worked for KPMG (one of the Big 4 Accounting Firms) where he was a Director and Practice Leader for Controversy and Consulting – Western Region in the State and Local Tax Practice. While serving as Deputy State Controller-Taxation, Rex was responsible for representing the Controller on the Board of Equalization (now known as the California Department of Tax and Fee Administration or CDTFA) and Franchise Tax Board.

I spoke with Rex over the phone today concerning a frustrating (to me) taxation issue concerning my new employer. He was friendly, knowledgeable, and offered solid, practical advice during our 30 min conversation that will save me a lot of time, frustration, and money. This wasn't a bunch of mumbo jumbo. He was able to quickly recall certain tax laws, and also give calculations that allowed me to see the issue from a larger perspective. I offered to pay him, but he adamantly refused.
