Her parents arrived in the United States as Ukrainian refugees after World War II, having spent seven years in Displaced Persons camps before finally coming to America. Like so many immigrants, they came with little more than hope—no money, living in a small apartment, and taking on labor jobs even though my grandparents had been teachers back home. Because of their experience, she understand what drives so many of her clients: the determination to build a better life and achieve the American Dream.
