I photographed a session at McHenry Mansion, and it’s such a beautiful historic location in Downtown Modesto. The property allows outdoor photography in the open courtyard area without a permit during tour hours, which is great for quick portraits or historic-style backdrops. A heads-up for photographers: the security staff informed us that photos on the front steps aren’t allowed while tours are operating, so as not to disrupt visitors. We were able to get one photo before learning that rule, but they were very polite in explaining it. Overall, the mansion is a charming spot for outdoor portraits, and as long as you follow the guidelines, it’s a lovely (and free!) option for sessions in Modesto.
