About Dimond Park
Established by the City of Oakland in 1917, Dimond Park is named for Hugh Dimond, a Gold Rush newcomer who acquired the land comprising the adjacent district in 1867. Located in the heart of the Dimond District at the upper end of Fruitvale Avenue, the park sits at the base of Dimond Canyon with hiking trails that climb to reach Joaquin Miller Park in the hills above.

Diamond Park has much to offer, including a swimming pool. A delightful creek runs across the northern edge of the park. There is a trail that leads past the bridge that connects to Park Blvd. The trail is quite technical and requires excellent footwear and caution. The rain has eroded the pathways in places and makes hiking here exciting. Pack dry socks if you attempt the hike past the bridge, creek crossing is necessary, and I only noticed one suitable place to keep shoes out of water.
