About Great China
Great China was established in Berkeley in 1985 by Mike and Jenny Yu. The original location was on Kittredge Street next to the famed California Theatre, however a fire in 2012 forced the restaurant to close and reopen in its current location. Today brothers James and Tai Yu carry on the family legacy. For decades Great China has served as a favorite lunch and dinner spot for UC Berkeley faculty, students and locals alike. Many long time patrons will recognize our lead server Linda Wang, who has been with Great China since the beginning.

If you come to this restaurant, and I highly recommend you do, keep in mind it is very popular and there will be a wait. The only question is how long. We were expecting to wait a long time, but we got there before it opened on a Sunday, and only waited about 10 minutes. We felt very lucky! We came here in a big group, which is definitely the way to do it because you can get a variety of dishes. Everything was absolutely delicious! The Peking duck was our favorite. But we also liked many other dishes. The only dish that I would say was not fantastic was a fried rice, but that could be just my taste, because someone else actually liked it. This is a really terrific place to come with a group for delicious Chinese food. Highly, highly recommend.
