About Alcatraz Island
Alcatraz Island is a historic island in San Francisco Bay managed by the National Park Service. Once a military fort and prison, it later operated as a maximum-security federal penitentiary from 1934 to 1963 and became the site of the 1969–1971 American Indian occupation. Today, visitors can explore its historic buildings, exhibits, gardens, and natural landscapes.

Brought my guests here on multiple occasions and it is worth it. You get an audio guided tour, have time to explore on your own, educational videos, live talks, a garden, great views of the city and bridges, and 3 optional times to get back on the ferry. Incredibly windy and cold. Recommend booking in advance, although there is a standby line available. The hot dog vendors right outside are bomb.
