About Golden Gate Toll

Golden Gate Toll Plaza is the former toll-collection area on the San Francisco approach to the Golden Gate Bridge. The Golden Gate Bridge opened in 1937, and toll collection began at 50 cents each way. Since 1968, vehicle tolls have been collected only from southbound traffic. Today, the bridge uses electronic and license-plate-based tolling rather than traditional cash booths.
