Founded in 1982 by Keith and Kathy Layton, the business began in San Francisco after the couple, originally from the East Coast, wanted to recreate the authentic taste of the cheesesteaks they knew from home. Over more than four decades, The Cheese Steak Shop has developed a distinctive identity around traditional Philly-style sandwiches and ingredients associated with the region.
